Achievo 1.0.0 release notes - December 3, 2003

After over 3 years of development, we have finally reached the point where we have a version of our project management application Achievo that we consider complete enough to bare the magical 1.0 version number. Hundreds of users around the world are already using Achievo. We expect to welcome a lot of new users now that we finally reached the 1.0 milestone. A special thanks goes to all people who have helped made Achievo what it is today, by contributing to the project over the past 3 years. A full list of people who have contributed in some way to Achievo can be found in the AUTHORS file from the Achievo distribution. To those of you who are new to Achievo we would like to say: Welcome! We hope you will find Achievo a useful tool for your organization. If used properly, it can give you valuable information about the projects run in your company. For those of you who have used Achievo in the past or who are still using Achievo, I've included a list of changes since the last stable Achievo (0.8.4), which was released over a year ago. For those of you who have followed Achievo's development closely, I've included a list of changes since the last release candidate (RC3).

Upgrade Notes

If you are upgrading from Achievo 1.0.RC3, an update of the source files will suffice. No database changes were made between RC3 and 1.0.0. If you are upgrading from an older version of Achievo, you should run Achievo's automatic upgrade script. After you unpacked the distribution using tar xzvf achievo-stable-1.0.0.tar.gz, see the UPGRADE file in the doc/ directory for instructions on how to upgrade your database. Upgrading is ofcourse not without risk. Don't forget to backup your data, and preferably perform the upgrade on a copy of your database instead of the original.

What's new ?

The list of changes is enormous. Therefor, I only present the most important ones here. For a complete list of changes, see the CHANGES file.
  • Added a scheduler feature for managing appointments.
  • Added the setup.php script, which can be used to install and/or upgrade the Achievo database and install extension modules.
  • Added Personal Information Manager (PIM) screen which is the default screen that Achievo displays when a user logs in. It contains appointments for today, todo's, and time registration entries.
  • Replaced the old projectplanning with a graphical ganttchart.
  • Added Chinese, Danish and Swedish language files.
  • Updated Brazilian-Portuguese, Dutch, English, French, German, Norwegian and Spanish language files.
  • There's a new search box in the top frame that searches in contacts, projects and customers.
  • Added statistical graphs for projects (using the open source graph toolkit jpGraph).
  • Added timeregistration feature to register multiple days at once.
  • Instead of one 'customer' and one 'contactperson', a project now has multiple teammembers, each having a configurable 'role'.
  • The project edit screen now uses tabs to devide the information.
  • Hour entries can now be edited directly from the time survey (only your own hours and only if the entries are not from locked weeks)
  • Achievo should no longer generate notices when php error_reporting is set to E_ALL.
  • Cleaned up the project menu.
  • The project management menu now remembers the currently edited project, so you can easily do other functions with the same project (stats, etc). Also, the last used projects are remembered in a dropdown.
  • Added current record indication to the title of view-/edit- and delete screens.
  • Added calendar popup to all date fields.
  • Newly added employee contracts now have default values depending on the previous contract of that employee.
  • In employee management, inactive employees are now hidden by default.
  • Added a cron script that sends reminders for todo's.
  • In the hoursurvey, you can now filter hours using this role.
  • Renamed customer to organization (which can have multiple roles, one of which could be 'Customer').
  • Added 'state' field to organization and person.
  • Added 'function' field to person.
  • In the 'security profiles' screen, you can no longer grant rights that you don't have yourself.
  • In the 'security profiles' screen, the confusing 'Administration' right has been renamed to 'Access'.
  • All screens have now default 'view' links for readonly access to the data, which is enabled if the user has the 'Access' right.
  • In the employee contracts, you can now configure on which day people work.
  • Added PIM API. All modules can now add information to the PIM screen, if they need to.
  • Added Search API. All modules can now return searchresults when using the search feature from the topframe.
  • Achievo can now handle userpreferences per module.
  • You can now no longer register time on nonactive project phases.
  • Improved navigation in timeregistration (date jump).
  • Added form based login, so Achievo should now work with php running as a cgi-binary.
  • Added todo history.
  • Added 'clickthrough' feature for more easy navigation between items.
  • Added 'multiselect' feature (for example the ability to delete more than one record at the same time).
  • Added 'default' screen to menuitems. (This brings back 'one click' timeregistration).
  • Added multiline select to extended search feature.
  • Achievo should now work with register_globals = Off.
  • Achievo now works with allow_call_time_pass_reference=Off in php.ini.
  • Achievo no longer behaves weird when having multiple open browser windows.
  • Reorganised Achievo codebase. Everything is now located in modules.
  • Achievo is now more 'session timeout' resistant.
  • Various improvements to the ATK backend.
  • Many bugs have been fixed, both in Achievo and its ATK backend.

What's new since release candidate RC3?

  • Fixed bug #213.
  • Fixed a few untranslated strings.(bug #224)
  • Updated Danish language file.
